The lesson number corresponds to the lesson numbers on the assignment calendar. Lesson 1 1. Read Hemingway's “A Very Short Story” 2. Post two comments on voicethread (one must be either voice / video) -Comment on whether or not the narrator is being truthful - Circle/mark what statements seem truthful - Is the language complex, simple? - Was this story readable? - Was the meaning clear? Why or why not? Lesson 2 Questions to consider while reading up to page 34 - What makes Jim a real character? Can you identify with him? - Do you know anyone like Jim or his uncles? - Is Jim’s mother a stereotypical mother? If so, what makes her typical and what makes her unique? Adding comments to the blog will earn you a ½ point of extra credit (per post). Remember, every full point of extra credit is a full point that can be added to any grade from the current quarter. Lesson 3 -Read up to page 70 and take a look at the “gathering evidence” assignment sheet. Gather evidence as you read. You evidence does not have to be on the handout. Lesson 4 -Read up to page 101 -Is there a story that you hear over and over again from a family member or friend? Is this story center around any specific event in history?
-Go to Chinswing.com, set up and account. The link will be provided. Tell a 2-3 minute story that you have heard from a family member or friend. Contact you teacher prior to the assignment if accessing the computer poses a problem - you will be given an alternative assignment.
Listen to you classmates' stories! | Lesson 5 -Read pages 101-156 -Prepare for group work in the following class period. You will have a while period this week to work with your partner. Make efficient use of your time by selecting key passages that relate to your character and if you can, read ahead. Lesson 6 -Read pages 157-225 (the end of the novel!) -Be prepared to spend the next class period working on your interview. -You and your partner should have made arrangements to record your interview, if not make sure you contact your partner before tomorrow. Lesson 7 -Record your 8-12 minute interview with your partner, check the rubric to make sure your project meets the requirements. -Email the file as an attachment (www.transferbigfiles.com) or burn the 8-12 minute interview on to a disk.
Lesson 8 -Using the Listening Question Handout from class as a guide, respond to two interviews. You have heard them all in class but for an in depth response you will need to access the interviews via the unit site. -Bring a hard copy of the assginment to class tomorrow. The papers will be graded by your peers! (Be prepared for a discussion of the novel’s conclusion) |
